1. What is the fabric composition?

This is the single most important question, and most product pages bury it. Look for:

• Nylon-Elastane (80-85% / 15-20%) — the gold standard. Breathes, wicks moisture, holds shape.
• Nylon-Spandex (similar ratio) — acceptable, slightly less recovery
• Polyester-anything — avoid for daily wear. Traps heat. Causes irritation.
• "Synthetic blend" (vague description) — usually means cheap polyester. Skip.

2. What's the waistband design?

Look for these specific details:

• Silicone grip strip on the inside (prevents rolling)
• Width of at least 3 inches (anything thinner pinches)
• Reinforced binding on the edge (prevents fraying after washing)

If the photos don't clearly show the waistband construction, that's a red flag. Quality brands photograph their construction details.

3. Is there an open-crotch design?

This sounds like a minor detail. It's not. Brands that skip this are designing for the runway, not real life. You'll find out the hard way at 3 PM when you need the bathroom and you're wearing what feels like a wetsuit.

Pro tip: if the product description doesn't mention "bathroom-friendly" or "open gusset," assume it's not designed for it.

4. What's the return policy?

This reveals everything. Look for:

• At least 14 days after delivery (industry standard for quality brands)
• No restocking fee (predatory practice to discourage returns)
• Free return shipping (signals confidence in product)

"All sales final" or "store credit only" = brand knows you'll want to return. Avoid.

5. Are reviews from verified buyers?

Read the 2-star and 3-star reviews specifically — they tell you the truth. 5-star reviews can be incentivized; complaints about real issues can't.

Look for patterns:

• "Ran small" mentioned 3+ times = sizing is off
• "Rolled down" mentioned = waistband design failed
• "Hot/sweaty" mentioned = polyester
• "Smell" mentioned = synthetic material problem
